Duterte: Ormoc City, Kananga is Under state of calamity

President Duterte has located Ormoc City and Kananga town in Leyte under circumstances of calamity per month once they were reach with a 6.5 magnitude earthquake.

Mr. Duterte agreed upon Proclamation 238 on the status of emergency declaration on August 7, after the advice of the Country wide Disaster Risk Lowering and Management Council.

The quake, which struck on July 6, killed two different people and injured scores of others. In addition, it caused complexes to collapse and displaced a large number of families.

“The declaration of circumstances of calamity in the aforesaid areas will hasten the rescue, recovery, relief, and rehabilitation efforts of the federal government and the private sector, including any international humanitarian assistance,” the proclamation stated.

The state of emergency declaration would also control the costs of basic goods and commodities in the damaged areas and present the federal government the latitude to work with funds for the rescue, recovery, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.

Government organizations and departments were directed to use the pain relief and rehabilitation work, and coordinate with and augment the essential services and facilities of the damaged local government systems.

Law enforcement organizations, with help from the navy, were tasked to keep peace and order in the damaged areas.

The state of calamity will stay in force before President lifts it.
